To create awareness about the Disaster Management, a program was organized at SMJN PG College to promote importance of Disaster Management, emphasising the need of Himalayan regions. This program was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of SMJN PG College, Haridwar as pre event program with reference to 6th World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM). The inaugural session was started by lightening the lamp by the guests of this session followed by Saraswati Vandana. Dr. Sanjay Maheshwari, Co-ordinator, welcomed all the participants and explained the theme of the program.


Arshika, student of B.Sc. Final Year presented her views on the importance of Disaster Management. She also mentioned the power of youth to tackle the problems of Natural as well as Man made disasters. Ms. Aparajita, student of B.Sc. Final Year described the types of disasters with the help of her self composed poem.

In the technical session, Dr. Vijay Sharma, Co-ordinator, Environment Cell, explained the Disasters and its Management. In his lecture, Dr. Sharma scientifically described the types, reasons and preventive measures to be taken before, during and post disaster. Dr. Sharma mentioned that the movement of Indian and Eurasian Plates is responsible for the occurrence Earthquakes in Himalayan region. Various efforts at individual level were also suggested by Dr. Sharma.
Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Kumar Batra, the principal, SMJN PG College, Haridwar, in his speech, the importance of Disaster Management at Various Level. Prof. Batra also mentioned that tactfully management is required for all types of Natural as well as Man made disasters. Prof. Batra mentioned that the whole family of SMJN is praying for all 41 laborers struggling in Silkyara Tunnel. Prof. Batra said, that we will together celebrate Dev Deepawali on safe returning of those warrior from the tunnel.
An Act on Kedarnath Tragedy was also enacted by Music Department. Dr. Amita Malhotra also sang a self composed song on Disaster Management. Aarti Aswal devoted a Garhwali song to the efforts of Indian Army during the disaster management at various places in Uttarakhand.
During the event, Ms. Mansi Verma (B.A. 3 Sem) and Ms. Aparajita (B.Sc. 3 Sem) secured first position, combinedly. Ms. Anjali Gotra (B.Com 3 Yr) secured second prize. Ms. Mamta Kumari (BA 3 Yr) and Shruti Dhal (BA 3 Sem) secured third position, combinedly. Pranjal Singh (BA 1 Sem) and Akanksha Singh (BA 1 Sem) secured consolation prize.
Dr. Sanjay Maheshwari successfully lead the event. Dr. Maheshwari said such event should be organise more frequently to spread awareness about the Disasters and its Management. Dr. Mona Sharma gave vote of thanks to Principal, SMJN and IQAC Team to coordinate awareness program on such important issue. She also voted thanks to the participants students in Poster as well as Act.
